Overview
When Kawasaki decided to refresh its 650 parallel-twin, no one expected such a result. The Kawasaki ER-6f 2016 goes beyond a cosmetic touch-up; it’s built on redesigned foundations, with a steel double tube frame that differs from the previous generation. The swingarm follows the same logic, more rigid and better anchored. On the road, this structural evolution truly changes the game compared to an entry-level Honda CB500F or Yamaha MT-07.

What immediately strikes you is the coherence of the project. The Kawasaki ER 6f fully embraces its status as an accessible road bike, without trying to imitate superbikes. The fairing adopts the styling codes of the Kawasaki range with a side cutout that recalls the ZZR 1400, a reference that is far from insignificant within the green house. The windscreen is now adjustable, which is a real plus for long journeys. The two-level seat sits at 805 mm, a reasonable height for an average build, and the passenger is not treated as a second-class citizen. With a wet weight of 209 kg and a 16-liter tank, the Kawasaki ER 6f 600 offers correct range without weighing like a GT.
The 649 cc parallel-twin is the main asset of this machine since its inception. In this 2016 version, it delivers 72 horsepower at 8500 rpm and 64 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm. These figures don't seem impressive on paper, but on the road they tell a different story: the engine pulls early, smoothly, with a progressiveness that reassures the rider transitioning from an A2 license and satisfies the hurried touring rider who chains together the kilometers. The top speed is around 200 km/h, an honest performance for this segment. The six-speed gearbox works cleanly, the price-pleasure ratio clearly leans in the right direction with a Kawasaki ER 6f price displayed at €6999.
The dashboard deserves to be discussed frankly: the analog tachometer needle is paired with a digital screen that manages instantaneous consumption, estimated range, and an economy driving indicator. The whole thing works, without being beautiful. It's the only place where Kawasaki cut back on the budget. Compared to an MT-07 or a Z650, the instrumentation shows its age. The braking, however, remains solid with its dual front discs, two-piston calipers that bite without violence. The Kawasaki ER-6f ABS version integrates a system that is now more compact and lighter than on previous generations, including the Kawasaki ER-6f 2009 and Kawasaki ER 6f 2012 models, which removes the last obstacle to purchase for cautious riders.
Who is this Kawasaki ER-6f used bike, which regularly populates classified ads, aimed at? At the person who is moving from a 125 and wants a real motorcycle without being overwhelmed by horsepower, at the urban commuter who rides in all weather and wants a reliable tool, at the weekend touring rider who doesn't need a 1000 to have fun. The competition is fierce in this niche, the Yamaha MT-07 pushes hard with its 689 cc twin and 75 hp, the CB500F targets a more beginner audience. The Kawasaki ER-6f 2016 occupies a central position, neither too tame nor too radical, with enough character to never become tiresome. This is its main strength, and the reason why it sells well.
