Overview
In the early 2000s, Harley-Davidson decided to shake things up. The result is this 2005 VRSCB V-Rod, a flying saucer in the Milwaukee manufacturer's catalog. Imagine: an engine signed by Porsche, liquid cooling, a double overhead camshaft, and four valves per cylinder. A veritable declaration of war against the brand's traditional DNA. This 1131 cm3 Revolution engine is the Trojan horse in the conservative fortress. It delivers 115 horsepower at 8500 rpm, nearly 50 more than the Twin Cam of the time. A real shock.

And this power is felt. The beast exudes a dragster character, with its black painted aluminum frame and two-tone black and silver engine. The lines are low and aggressive, with a 66 cm seat that plants the rider in a more roadster position than on a soft custom. The 14-liter tank, however, recalls the limits of the genre: here, we are to put on a show and reach top speeds of 210 km/h, not to cross the continent. With 284 kg fully fueled, it has good stability, but its 171 cm wheelbase provides reassuring stability when the speedometer climbs.
Facing the competition, the V-Rod plays in a league of its own. It doesn't have the assumed rusticity of a Yamaha V-Max of the era, nor the versatility of a Japanese cruiser. It is the "crazy" option for the Harley fan who refuses the eternal purring. The dual front disc braking does the job, the belt transmission is clean, and the 49 mm fork swallows up the imperfections of the road surface without trembling. But at 17995 euros at the time, it clearly targeted the passionate enthusiast seeking exclusivity and thrills, much more than the Sunday rider.
Ultimately, this V-Rod remains a stroke of marketing and technical genius. It has proven that Harley could stray from the beaten path without denying its identity. It is a motorcycle for those who want a custom capable of delivering both warmth and cold, with the low growl of the twin and the screams of an engine that isn't afraid of anything. A desirable object, imperfect and unique, like a muscle car on two wheels. It didn't revolutionize the range, but it has indelibly marked people's minds.
