Overview

Being one of the most imposing vessels in the Harley-Davidson Touring range, the Road Glide Ultra is entitled to a few privileges. The most important is undoubtedly the adoption of the M8 114 ci engine (since 2019) in its Twin-Cooled version. The muscle that now animates this behemoth is in keeping with Harley’s ambitions. Watts, overflowing torque, and modernity. True to tradition, this imposing engine features two cylinders arranged in a 45° V configuration. Engineers worked to deliver more than just metal and fins. The cylinder heads house 4 valves per cylinder, as well as two spark plugs to optimize combustion. With 1868 cm3 and partial liquid cooling, a multitude of improvements, and better breathing, this ninth generation of "big block" propels the Road Glide Ultra with a brand new vigor.

A few figures? Let’s indulge in the torque, which increases by 1.2 mkg compared to the M8 107 that powered it previously; namely 16.7 mkg at 3,000 rpm only. Powerful, and well-mannered, the engine is. A balance shaft reduces vibrations by 75% at idle, while maintaining the typical pulse and character of a Harley. To discover the Milwaukee Eight engine in detail, click here -> H-D also takes care of road comfort with new Showa suspensions. The fork is more efficient and has more stable damping. The rear shocks are no longer from the generation of pneumatic systems. They are emulsion-type and equipped with a simplified adjustment, ensuring they can maintain constant preload.

The appearance is enhanced, especially since the Road Glide still surprises. Its particular face filters its audience, and brings it an indescribable appeal. In addition to different protection and a different steering feel than the Electra Glide. Harley has worked a lot on this model, drawing on the Rushmore project. The fork head has been profiled for optimum management of aerodynamic flows. To put it simply: a comfortable dose of air for the rider and another to cool the engine.

What’s in the Rushmore project already? Testimonials, opinions, ideas from thousands of Harley users; followed by concrete applications. Quite a few models benefit from this, including the 1745 Road Glide Ultra. You can thus enjoy Reflex brakes, a 49 mm slim fork, Impeller lightweight aluminum rims, improved dashboard graphics and controls, and cruise control.

Regarding entertainment, the Boom Box 6.5 GT system is improved through an evolution named GTS. H-D retains the large 16.5 cm touchscreen but doubles its resolution, improves its contrast, and makes it virtually unbreakable. After a few years of presence and user experiences, the system is now simplified, more intuitive, and above all much faster. Apple CarPlay compatibility makes its appearance. The driver will always have at their disposal the choice between the radio, the GPS, the musical reading via USB port, MP3, SD Card, iPhone/iPod – and sends it all either via Bluetooth, or through 100 w of power in 4 speakers of 13.34 cm.

Comfort takes an important place on this motorcycle. The rider benefits from a revised seat and a higher handlebar compared to the Road Glide Special. Far from being forgotten, the passenger enjoys a backrest, armrests, and a longer and wider seat by 25 mm, also compared to the FLTRXS. The Tour-Pak offers 4% more capacity and opens/closes via a single OneTouch lock, just like the saddlebags and the fuel door. The machine is imposing, and requires a certain financial commitment. After all, as Harley says: "They cross two borders before lunch..."
