Overview
Imagine a low, dark silhouette, gliding through the night like a freight train. The 2005 Night Train is not a Harley for beginners or chrome enthusiasts. It is a statement, almost a silent threat. Its name defines its character, and the omnipresent black, from the frame to the Twin Cam B 1450 engine, is its perfect translation.

Contrary to what its brute appearance might suggest, this Softail is a deeply civilized machine for its time. Its V-twin delivers 63 horsepower and 104 Nm of torque, figures that speak more to the soul than to the stopwatch. Top speed is around 160 km/h, but who buys a Night Train for that? The magic happens at 3200 rpm, when the surge becomes palpable and the vibrations, skillfully filtered by the balancer, come into play without becoming oppressive. It is there that the engine delivers its true discourse, between a deep rumble and a contained growl.
Technically, it benefited from the 2000 model year improvements: a more precise five-speed gearbox and dual-disc brakes that, for a Harley of this generation, offer honorable restraint. But with 305 kg fully fueled, it demands respect and anticipation. A seat height of 640 mm and a nearly 19-liter tank make it accessible and fairly roadworthy, but its weight keeps it anchored in the world of character bikes, far from the agility of a Japanese sportbike.
Compared to a Softail Standard or even a Deuce from the same period, the Night Train stands out with its radical minimalism. It eliminates the superfluous to exalt the essential: the mechanics, the shape of the double cradle frame, and this impression of raw power. It is a machine for the purist who wants a stripped-down Harley, without frills, almost industrial. Its price, around 18,000 euros at the time, clearly placed this work in the register of a desirable object for an informed clientele, seeking authenticity more than performance.
Ultimately, this motorcycle is a paradox. It displays a brawler look, but offers relatively refined handling. It seems archaic with its exposed rigid frame, but incorporates modern balancing solutions. It is not for those seeking speed or lightness, but it irresistibly seduces those who want a presence, a style, and an unmatched engine feel. The Night Train is less a motorcycle than a state of mind, riding in the shadows, away from the sun and superficial glances.
