Overview
Are you looking for a large-displacement American motorcycle without selling a kidney? The answer, for nearly a decade, has often been the Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom. This model, and especially the 2008 version, represents the perfect gateway to the world of big V-Twins. For around €14,995 new, you were getting 1573 cm3 under the seat, a mechanic that defined an era.

Don't be fooled, with 76 horsepower, it's far from a Japanese rocket. The magic lies elsewhere, from the very first turns of the crankshaft. Its Twin Cam 96 delivers a monstrous torque of 123 Nm, available almost at idle. It is this visceral push, this sensation of a wave of force with each throttle opening, that is captivating. The engine is mounted softly in its double cradle frame, but vibrations are part of the character; they are the pulse of the machine. With a seat 70 cm from the ground and a low center of gravity, handling is reassuring, even for a novice facing its 306 kg of fully fueled weight.
However, you need to keep a cool head. The Dyna Super Glide Custom FXDC, especially in its 2006 to 2011 versions, is not a sportbike. The 49 mm fork and the two shock absorbers are designed for comfort, not for attacking a tight corner. The braking, with its single front disc, lacks bite and requires the anticipation of a cruise ship captain. It is a motorcycle for cruising in style, not for scraping the footpegs. The reasonable consumption, around 4.5L/100km, and the 19-liter tank make it a peaceful touring machine, ideal for endless straight roads.
Facing a Honda Shadow or a Yamaha XV, the Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom relies on attitude. The look is perfect, between the shortened rear fender, the chrome accents, and the wide 17-inch rear wheel. It embodies the factory custom, ready to ride without modification. Today, finding a used Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom from this period is an excellent deal for those who want to taste authenticity without breaking the bank. It is an imperfect, sometimes frustrating, but terribly charismatic motorcycle. It won't transport you quickly, but it will make you travel with a smile. A true cruiser for those who believe that the soul of a motorcycle is measured by the sound of its exhaust and the width of its handlebars.
