Overview
Imagine a motor running at idle, a deep rumble that vibrates the windows of cafes. This is the antechamber of the Harley-Davidson legend, and the Dyna Super Glide Custom, particularly the 2008 or 2009 models, is often the gateway. We are talking about a machine that, with its 1584 cm3, doesn't cut corners but focuses on instruction. It teaches you torque, this 123 Nm available from 3125 rpm, and introduces you to the characteristic vibrations of the Twin Cam, even if they are here refined by a flexible mounting in its double cradle frame.

This Custom version, identifiable by its FXDC code, plays the factory style card. It features chrome accents, spoked rims, and this low profile with a 680 mm seat that invites you to mount it with confidence. But be warned, behind this accessible bad boy facade, there is a motorcycle with very clear limitations. Its braking, with a single disc at the front, is a constant reminder that you are not riding a sportbike. The 308 kg of fully fueled weight and modest ground clearance dissuade you from seeking lean angle in curves. It is a cruiser, period.
However, on the road, it has its charm. The 19.3-liter tank allows for travel, and the six-speed gearbox manages the large engine with dignity, even if the power peaks at 76 horsepower. It is made for riding, not racing. Post-2006 versions, with their wider 160 rear tire and reinforced forks, have gained presence. This is a logical evolution for a motorcycle that, since 2007, has also adopted the Fat Bob-style tank, consolidating its look.
The target audience? It is clearly the beginner on large displacement bikes, or the traveler who wants a Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom without breaking the bank. With a price around 14,500 euros at the time, it was one of the most affordable in the range. But affordable does not mean boring. It offers the essence of the Harley experience: the sound, the attitude, the wide roll. For those seeking a more physical test, a more agile motorcycle, you will need to look elsewhere. The Dyna Super Glide Custom, especially on the used market today, remains an initiation object, a first step into a world where performance is measured in sensations, not numbers. It is not perfect, but it is authentic.
