Overview

It’s a yacht! ... It’s a frigate! ... It’s considerable! What do I say, it’s considerable? .... It’s the pinnacle of luxury. As is the case for CVO models. By joining this prestigious club, the Road Glide Limited becomes a very large touring motorcycle. Superb, enormous, long as a cruise ship, this ample tourer is a total immersion in first-class travel.

Yet, the Road Glide Limited is already a magnificent machine. Almost overwhelming, with a presence facing the miles worthy of an American sedan. But thanks to the Custom Vehicle Operations department, it becomes richer in accessories, in finish, in engine and in comfort.

CVO models present themselves with a certain majesty. Often, as here, with colors of appreciable magnificence. The American refinement is expressed here and not least, with this aircraft carrier presence and details that the eye appreciates. Like the heated grips, the selector and exhaust tips, the footpegs and the brake pedal trim from the Kahuna collection. Or the Tomahawk wheels; or the Rockford Fosgate developed audio system; up to its typically Harley carrying capacity. A large top case with luggage rack in addition to accommodate the luggage of the journey; accompanied by singularly frugal saddlebags given the size of the machine. 25 liters per saddlebag... enough to hold two large sweaters and a bottle of water. Don’t even think about fitting a helmet in there, unless it’s a bicycle helmet.

A CVO is also the jubilation of enjoying the largest twin from Harley, the Milwaukee Eight 117 ci. From its largest production engine; we're not talking about the Stage IV update bringing the engine to 131 ci / 2146 cm3. The heart of this Road Glide Limited is a thick slab of torque like lard, with 16.9 kgm of torque crammed into only 3500 rpm. It’s a little less than the force held by the CVO Road Glide and Street Glide sisters (17.2 kgm); but the Limited offers 2 extra horsepower. The ranch is equipped with 105 horsepower at 5450 rpm. To achieve this result, the M8 boasts 1923 cm3 of displacement, a high-performance single camshaft, 4 valves per cylinder, a Heavy Breather air filter, partial liquid cooling and high-flow exhausts. A touch of refinement is added with colored bands on the lifter supports and on the valve covers.

The Road Glide Limited is the most imposing of Harley Tourers, with its enormous Shark Nose headstock. With it, its wide windshield and the large knee scoops, the protection is the best that can be found in the range. The rider and passenger seats are heated, the rear seat is royal and the equipment is rich. Inside this CVO, you’ll find the Boom Box GTS infotainment system with a 6.5-inch color touchscreen, radio, GPS, music, intercom and smartphone connectivity, 100 watts of sound per channel, all LED lighting, cruise control and active CRSE - Cornering Rider Safety Enhancements. Within this acronym are Harley’s riding aids:- Improved interconnected electronic brakes in corners (C-ELB)- Improved ABS in corners (C-ABS)- Improved traction control in corners with riding modes (C-TCS)- Cornering Residual Torque Control (DSCS)- Vehicle Hold Control (VHC)- Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). It’s a shame the Daymaker headlights aren’t adaptive in corners as on the CVO Street Glide. Given the insane price asked, it’s petty. A Tracer 9 GT, three times cheaper, offers them as standard.

With the CVO Road Glide Limited, its luxury and its enormous engine, we do more than ride on a motorcycle of great pedigree. We appropriate a piece of America, of Hollywood Boulevard, of the immense roads of Nevada and of the mirrors of Las Vegas. Almost a cult object.... It’s necessary to have that to shell out the big euros required for its ownership. At the end of the line, does it hit?
