Overview
Now designated as the SP2, the most extreme Ducati Streetfighter V4 receives a series of updates; subtle but present to further enhance efficiency. To offer better support for the rider, it adopts the fuel tank from the latest generation Panigale V4. This also allows it to gain a liter of capacity (17 in total); its shape requires new side panels, the only visual modification to note (along with the decoration evolution).
Ducati finely retouches the chassis, moving the swingarm pivot 4 mm upwards. This will provide more precision and stability on corner entry thanks to the shift in weight towards the front. The engine, very powerful under any conditions, receives new settings related to the increase in the diameter of the muffler outlet.
All evolution in Bologna is accompanied by an electronic update. For the SF V4 SP2, this will be the addition of the "Wet Riding" riding mode, new graphics on the dashboard, an improved shifter management (depending on how you twist the throttle), a more advanced engine braking control, and a new management of the cooling radiators.
The genesis of the 1100 Streetfighter V4 SP.
To ensure a high level of performance, aggressive roadsters have long been stripped-down versions of hypersports. Most of the time, they are tamed to suit street and road use. Except that with the Streetfighter V4, Ducati erased any notion of appeasement between the sporty and the naked. Going further would be absurd... So, they did.
The Streetfighter V4 SP2 takes over from the SP, freshly arrived in the range. A very high-performance presence for the most astounding roadster from Bologna. As the name suggests, it is derived from the Panigale V4 SP2. Nothing less than the version just below the R, with almost the same level of efficiency for very good riders – the V4R reveals its superiority in the hands of a pro. SP2 for Sport Production, 2nd version. Although the word sport will quickly turn into racing. The machine presents an outrageousness as unreasonable as it is intoxicating.
Let’s not immediately focus on the engine. Let's gauge the good and sound contributions brought with these initials to the exciting echo. Ducati enthusiasts will have recognized the decoration identical to that of the Panigale: the "Winter Test" as they say in Bologna. A deep black with red accents, enhanced by a brushed aluminum fuel tank. It’s beautiful, demonic, powerful, and frightening at the same time.
One of the big assets of this super hyper-roadster are the new carbon fiber rims, coming directly from the Superleggera V4. The weight saving compared to the forged aluminum ones on the V4S is 1.4 kilos. This provides a noticeably sensitive gain in agility as the rotational inertia of the wheels is reduced by 26% at the front and 46% at the rear. With its carbon winglets and front mudguard, superb CNC-machined aluminum footpegs adjustable in multiple points, the adoption of a lithium battery and a few other special parts, the Streetfighter V4 SP2 loses 3 kilos in its total mass.
This now weighs only 196.5 kilos to pull (+ rider) for the seething engine of 208 horsepower. Some serious cavalry, among the most powerful on the market - all machines combined. Only 6 horsepower less than the Panigale. On the SP2, no watts are added; none are needed to catch up to a fighter jet. Ducati enthusiasts from the old days will be delighted by the presence of a dry clutch. Its characteristic sound gives emotion, even more with the open-worked carbon cover revealing the essence of its technique. Alain C. would drool over it. This STM-EVO SBK clutch brings more efficiency in terms of anti-dribble and allows to transform a little more power. When braking, there is no restraint except to absorb the force of the brake calipers. They are improved by switching to Stylema R; the best of the top-of-the-line series.
Ducati has thought of a few small details to perfect the Italian charm. A beautiful Alcantara seat with the V4 SP2 logo embroidered and red stitching, the Italian flag painted on the winglets, the Ducati Corse mention on the engine guard, and no place for the passenger. The machine is too exclusive... and selfish.
The Streetfighter V4 SP2 is based on the chassis, engine, and electronics of the S version. This allows for the recovery of the Öhlins pilot suspensions. An inverted 43 mm NIX 30 fork and a TTX36 monoshock whose settings are controlled in real time by the SMART EC 2.0 unit. All assists are at the ready, a mix of platoon and commandos. There are the 4 Riding Modes, the 6-axis inertial unit, the traction / wheelie / slip / engine braking controls, the tire auto-calibration system, the launch assistant, the Up&Down shifter, and the cornering ABS.
The DDA+ GPS telemetry system (optional) is still missing. The Streetfighter SP2 can also receive the multimedia system or heated grips. Uh.... between the sound of the V4 and the tension in the grips when the 12.5 kg-m and the big torquers will stir, these add-ons will become extremely secondary. Sweat and adrenaline guaranteed for those who dare to push in the curves; at a superb and terrible level.
It goes too far! We thought only MV-Agusta could push the cursor of the unreasonable to this level. But no: the Streetfighter V4 SP2 raises the Ducati roadster to a staggering level of exclusivity. It’s no longer even a question of power; it’s a commitment to the hallucinatory. Each copy will be numbered, with its ID in the middle of the handlebar. It will cost "only" twice the price of a Streetfighter V2.
