Overview

Is the Panigale V2’s time coming to an end? Not quite. Ducati presents a special edition with a very evocative name: Superquadro Final Edition. This “Final Edition” term was the last word for the 998 SetPanigale 1299 R, closing important chapters in the history of Ducati twins. But it’s not the sportbike that’s going away, it’s the engine that will change on the next generation of the “small” Panigale.

Once again, Ducati has gone all out with the graphics for this farewell version. It is the result of a collaboration between Drudi Performance and the Centro Stile Ducati. The aggression is total, with a profusion of racing cues. The alternation of red, white, gray, and black suggests a nod to the strongest versions of the Desmo dynasty (R / SP2 / Corse). This “Superquadro Tribute” livery pays homage to the engine with a technical drawing on the fairing flanks representing the twin’s innards, exactly where they are located. A false transparency full of symbolism.

The Superquadro inside is the last of its kind, producing 155 horsepower and 10.6 mkg of torque from its 955 cm3 displacement. An engine with an enchanting, dry, and growling sound, allowing lovers of the Bolognese twin to enjoy this iconic and irreplaceable mechanical marvel for a little longer.

The Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition is built on the Bayliss edition base. This allows it to have superb Öhlins suspensions, fully adjustable. It’s a shame the factory didn’t take advantage of this to install Brembo Stylema calipers – Oh well, it’s the last of the line after all. But that doesn’t mean the bike doesn’t receive excellent care. There’s a beautiful series of exclusive elements onboard:

- A top triple clamp machined from aluminum with progressive serial number- A rider seat with specific embroidery- A dashboard animation at startup- A dedicated contact key- A whole host of carbon fiber parts: silencer, front and rear mudguards, swingarm protection, chain guard, clutch cover protection, damper protection.- Sport grips- Mass-machined Rizoma adjustable footrests- A GPS module for DDA data acquisition- A kit to remove the license plate holder- A kit to remove the machined aluminum mirror- A solid machined aluminum fuel cap- A dedicated motorcycle cover- A certificate of authenticity

Superb in its design, very sporty in its chassis, the Panigale V2 is also well-equipped with electronics. It’s starting to show its age and lags behind the V4, but it remains quite advanced. Judge for yourself: Cornering ABS EVO, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO, Ducati Quick Shift up/down (DQS) EVO 2, and finally Engine Brake Control (EBC) EVO.

Its destiny looks to be that of a collector’s motorcycle. Its equipment ennobles it, while rarity will be quantified with production limited to 555 units. The price has been increased accordingly. Suffocating, of course.

The Superquadro engine draws its origins from far back in time. In 1988, when the Superbike 851 debuted the first Ducati twin with 4 valves per cylinder: the Desmoquattro. It would evolve for more than 15 years, before transforming into Testastretta for the 998 and the generations of 999 and 1098. The Superquadro arrives in 2011, for the 1199 Panigale. The bore and power values become increasingly extreme. It would peak at 1285 cm3 and 215 horsepower on the 1299 Panigale Superleggera. It would be declined in more modest displacements for the "small Panigales," such as 898 cm3 and 955 cm3.
