Overview
Aligning with the evolution of the Multistrada, the Pikes Peak version confirms and asserts its presence within the range. For the eyes, the most notable change is the livery; it moves from a "Ducati Corse" color scheme to a more "MotoGP" style. A smaller carbon fiber windscreen and a carbon fiber Termignoni exhaust, delivered in addition to the original equipment, and forged Marchesini wheels type 1199 Panigale S – the Pikes Peak abandons GT accessories in favor of a sporty equipment. Logical when commemorating its performance at the famous race of the same name. Carbon fiber parts are also present, such as the front air intakes, the mudguards, the timing belt covers and the lateral air extractors. The sporty spirit is complemented by a specific seat with red stitching.
Deeper within its entrails, the Multistrada Pikes Peak "evo" welcomes the Testastretta II twin. No increase in power (with 150 horsepower, there’s already plenty to be overwhelmed), but a 0.6 mkg increase in torque. Ducati has reintroduced its Dual Spark technology to benefit each cylinder with a double ignition. The entire engine improvement package should bring more flexibility in driving and a gain in fuel consumption.
Slight weight gain for the Ducati trail bike, namely 5 kilos more on the scale. But with 194 kilos dry weight, it is among the lightest in its category. Should we attribute this plumpness to the electronic escalation present here? It abounds from the throttle to the ends of the suspensions; ride-by-wire, traction control DTC at 8 levels, hands-free start system, ABS Bosch 9ME at 3 levels, Riding Mode system for 4 types of driving (Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro), and the new Skyhook Suspension (DSS). Currently, Multistrada S models are no longer equipped with Öhlins but with Sachs semi-active suspension damping. A battery of sensors informs the DSS system of the road profile – it responds by automatically adjusting the compression or rebound damping, in relation to the Riding Mode used. The latter now allows for even more refined settings. Each mode can be complemented by a selection "solo rider", "rider with luggage", "rider and passenger", or "rider and passenger with luggage". In short, 16 types of configuration multiplied by 8 levels of traction control that equals a dedicated suspension engineer in your Multistrada.
2013 allowed the MTS 1200 to gain a front LED headlight, a warning light, a slightly redesigned front end and a major service interval extended to 24,000 kms.
