Overview
Evo, the code name now used by Ducati for the evolution of its models (nothing more logical, in fact). After the Hypermotard 1100 and the 848, it’s the 1100 Monster’s turn to bear this second first name. Just to clearly recall that it has changed? A look at the technical specifications or a simple glance at the machine will be enough to realize that the roadster gains even more character. It is above all its exhaust pipes that crack like a summation. Two lateral silencers, superimposed as were those of the S2R and S4R series… No, no, actually, like those of the virulent 1200 Diavel. While they visually lighten the rear part, fans of rims will regret that they mask the rear wheel, previously perfectly exposed and offered to envious glances.
A new seat and a handlebar raised by 20 mm will somewhat relieve the riding position. Since the release of the 796, the Monster range seems more concerned with improving ergonomics on board. Is the 1100 softening? Not really, quite the opposite. The large air-cooled twin gained 5 horsepower in 2011, allowing it to claim exactly 100 horsepower. Compression ratio increased, valves revised, crankshaft changed, that's how the engine block got its vitamins.
Technically, there are no changes to the chassis. Tubular trellis frame fixed to two aluminum plates, monobrach and inverted fork with 43 mm, accompanied by Brembo braking with radial 4-piston calipers. It is the electronic assistance that is in the spotlight. Presented under the name Ducati Safety Pack (DSP), active safety is entrusted to a super lightweight ABS and a 4-level adjustable traction control system. For sporty riders, these crutches can be deactivated from the handlebar. Its evolution translates to a weight gain of one kilogram – not a big deal when you display less than 170 on the scale. If telemetric analysis of your riding tempts you, the 1100 Monster evo is already pre-wired to receive the DDA (Ducati Data Analyzer), as on the 1198. The 2013 model year benefits from a special 20th anniversary version, with a nice vintage color scheme but above all emblematic.
