Overview
When Noale decides to play with fire, it doesn’s stop halfway. The Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory is the result of a simple and brutal calculation: take the engine from the RSV4, bore it to 1077 cm³, increase power to 175 horsepower at 11,000 rpm, house the whole thing in an aluminum double-beam chassis, and call it a roadster. The recipe is frankly irresponsible. It’s also what makes it fascinating.

This 13:1 compression V4 with 120 Nm of torque at 9000 rpm is not the kind of engine that gives you time to think. The usable range starts early, unlike previous versions, and climbs to a redline that would make many superbikes blush. At 184 kg dry, the Tuono Factory is not a featherweight, but each kilogram finds its justification in the onboard equipment. Because that’s where the Factory version distinguishes itself from the standard RR: Aprilia doesn’t just add a Superpole sticker and increase the bill by a few thousand euros. The 43 mm Öhlins TIN fork, the rear shock absorber, and the Swedish steering damper transform the motorcycle’s behavior. Everything is adjustable, from preload to rebound, and the rear tire goes to a generous 200/55-ZR17 for a ground contact better suited to the machine’s ambitions.
The electronics, for their part, are up to the year. The APRC pack integrates traction control in eight levels, an anti-wheelie, a quickshifter, a launch control, and three engine maps. The Bosch 9MP ABS offers three modes plus a disabled position for track sessions. A telemetry system connects wirelessly to the smartphone, transforming each outing into an analysis session worthy of an amateur competition team. The four-piston 32 mm radial Brembo brakes do their job with precision that inspires confidence, even when you don’t necessarily have the shoulders to manage the 175 horsepower that precede them.
Facing the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory, direct competition is essentially limited to the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, with which it shares the unenviable title of the most difficult naked to tame on the market. The KTM plays more on torque and tumultuous character, while the Aprilia focuses on the rev range and a more sporty roadholding, almost directly inherited from the RSV4 RR. On paper, the two are a match. In practice, the temperament differs profoundly, and the choice between them often depends on a matter of sensitivity more than a technical specification.
Those looking for an Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory used should check the 2016 to 2019 model years, a period when the Factory equipment already reached a rare level of comprehensiveness. The 2020 and 2021 versions refined some details, but the technical basis remains very close. At a launch price of 16,949 euros, this Factory clearly targeted an audience of experienced riders, capable of taking advantage of a motorcycle that offers no false sense of security. Beginners and cautious intermediates should pass. For the others, those who know exactly what they are doing with a handlebar in their hands, the Tuono Factory is a proposition difficult to ignore. Not perfect, too intense for exclusive daily use, but consistent from A to Z in what it seeks to accomplish.
