Overview
Do you believe an Italian roadster can only be a docile V-twin for Sunday rides? Let me introduce you to the 2008 Aprilia Tuono 1000 R FACTORY, a machine that definitively shattered that idea. Imagine the principle of the Ducati Monster S4RS, but applied with the near-military rigor of Noale. Take the heart of an RSV-R FACTORY, remove the fairing, and keep only the essential structure: the twin-spar aluminum frame, the 60° magnesium V2, and add a dose of Öhlins madness and carbon fiber. The result is a roadster that doesn't just put on a show; it wants war.

The transformation from the standard Tuono to this FACTORY version is radical. Showa and Sachs suspensions are removed to make way for a complete Öhlins Racing kit, including the 43 mm inverted fork and the APS system. The engine, already vigorous, undergoes a slight facelift. With 139 horsepower at 9500 rpm and 107 Nm of torque at 8000 rpm, it gains a few watts and a more aggressive mapping, thanks in part to larger exhaust valves. But the real work is on the mass. Forged OZ rims, carbon fiber protections on the engine guard, panels, the mudguard, everything is optimized to achieve a dry weight of 181 kg. For a 997 cc twin-cylinder engine, this is a promise of immediate responsiveness.
In terms of aesthetics, the 2008 Tuono 1000 R FACTORY adopts a less flamboyant language than its predecessors. White and red remain, but they are tempered by the omnipresence of Öhlins gold and the black of the carbon fiber. This is not a decorative motorcycle; it is a tool. With an 18-liter tank, a 810 mm seat height, and a wheelbase of 1410 mm, it retains a roadster ergonomics, but its behavior is that of a sports bike in disguise. The 2005 version launched the concept, the 2007 refined it, and this 2008, with its price of 14589 euros, represents the culmination before the evolutions of the Tuono 1000 R FACTORY 2010.
Faced with a Ducati S4RS or a KTM Super Duke of the time, the Tuono FACTORY stands out for its balance. The braking, with its double discs, is direct, but the magic mainly operates in the connection between the burly V2 and the hyper-precise chassis. It is a motorcycle for the track rider who refuses full fairing, for the touring rider who wants raw sensations, or for the bold urban rider who loves cataclysmic accelerations. It is not perfect, it can be intimidating, and its character demands a firm hand. But when it comes alive, it offers a feeling of total control, a mechanical aggressiveness that makes most other roadsters in this displacement seem almost refined. Aprilia has proven here that a superbike derivative can be more than a compromise; it can be pure madness.
