Overview

What does a 2009 Aprilia Tuono 1000 R Factory look like? Imagine an RSV-R Factory chassis stripped of its bodywork, fitted with a high handlebar, and onto which the wildest possible mechanics have been grafted. It’s not simply a version dressed up as a roadster; it’s an uninhibited superbike, a declaration of war against the Ducati Monster S4RS of the time. The principle is simple, but devilishly effective: to take the best of a track machine and adapt it to the road, without compromise.

Aprilia Tuono 1000 R FACTORY

Under the 18-liter fuel tank beats the heart of the beast, a 998 cm3 V2 delivering 139 horsepower at 9500 rpm. It’s not just a matter of power; it’s primarily the arrival of a muscular torque of 107 Nm, available early in the rev range. The recipe for the Aprilia Tuono 1000 R Factory 2008 is clear: linear yet explosive performance, inherited from an engine reworked with larger valves and an aggressive mapping. Compared to a more restrained Japanese roadster, the Italian two-wheeler roars and pulls like an animal, constantly recalling its racing origins.

Where the standard version used Showa and Sachs components, the Factory goes all Öhlins. Öhlins everywhere: 43 mm inverted fork and monoshock, both fully adjustable. The double-beam aluminum frame is that of the RSV-R, guaranteeing perfect rigidity. And to lighten the beast, Aprilia called on carbon fiber and forged OZ wheels. The result? A dry weight of only 181 kg, a crucial figure that transforms this machine, heavy on paper, into an agile and sharp motorcycle. A seat height of 810 mm may be intimidating, but once in motion, the Tuono proves surprisingly manageable.

With such equipment, the price of 14,589 euros at the time was justified against the competition. It was the option for the demanding track rider who wanted a road bike without compromising on the chassis and suspension. The Aprilia Tuono 1000 R Factory models from 2005 to 2010 form a consistent lineage, but the 2009 represents a culmination, before evolving into the V4 era. Its drawback? A total lack of compromise. It is noisy, vibrating, thirsty, and demanding. But for those seeking pure sensation, the ultimate mechanical connection, and a raw character, it remains an absolute reference. It’s much more than a roadster; it’s a superbike with its face exposed.
