Overview
Imagine a legendary engine, that of the FZR 1000 Genesis, housed in a raw steel frame and delivering its 98 horsepower without any electronics. That is the DNA of the XJR 1300. For its twentieth anniversary, Yamaha entrusted this mythical block to Winston Yeh of Rough Crafts, and the result, the Guerilla Four, is a declaration of war against political correctness.

The approach is clear: a raw, almost tactical aesthetic. Matte black reigns supreme, detailed by the brushes of Air Runner Custom Paint. The front end has been radically cleared with a custom headlight and a machined fork yoke that dispatches the dashboard, leaving only the essentials. The inverted forks from the VMax, shortened by ten centimeters, and the ISR radial-mount calipers set the tone: it is a machine for those who like to feel the braking in their fingertips.
The mechanics, just so, remain the central element. This 1251 cm3 inline four-cylinder engine, with its torque of 108.9 Nm available from 6000 rpm, is an anthology of robust simplicity. It breathes here through Rough Crafts intake trumpets and exhales through a custom silencer, promising a symphony far wilder than the original version. The intact twin-spar frame serves as a setting for this mechanics, while Roland Sands rims and oversized Coker Beck Style tires anchor the beast to the ground with incredible visual assurance.
Who is this Yard Built for? Certainly not the novice. At €13,000, we are in the register of collector's items for purists, an extreme café racer for the demanding aesthete. The philosophy is there: to prove that the 2015 XJR 1300 is an ideal customization platform, without cutting or welding. The parts, handcrafted in Taiwan by artisans like OneHandMade Customs, will also be available in kit form. It is an invitation to personalize your own machine, with the dark and aggressive style of Rough Crafts as a guide.
Faced with overly sanitized neo-retro bikes, the Guerilla Four embraces its warrior craftsmanship. It does not have the finesse of a Triumph Thruxton RS or the versatility of a BMW R nineT. It is a hummus, rough and direct, at a time when character is becoming rare. For the rider looking for a unique presence and a mechanics steeped in history, it is a captivating proposition. For others, it will remain a concept too radical. And that is precisely what makes its charm.
