Overview
So, are we saying that Yamaha has released another Tracer 7? Think again. For 2025, the brand with the tuning forks has chosen the path of sophistication rather than radical change. Where its big sister, the Tracer 9, took a radical turn, the 7 refines its recipe with watchmaker's precision. You don't revolutionize a best-seller, you perfect it. And that's exactly what they've done.

The initial impression is deceptive. The silhouette is familiar, but everything has been reworked. The fairing gains edges, scoops, a real character. It's less smooth, more assertive. Even the tank, now increased to 18 liters, adopts more practical shapes without sacrificing style. Yamaha also plays the technology card with skill: a 5-inch TFT screen worthy of a GT, complete smartphone connectivity with integrated navigation, and even a small choreography of the position lights at startup to impress the onlookers. It's a detail, but it contributes to this feeling of quality that was sometimes lacking in previous generations. The new, more enveloping handguards and the USB-C socket are welcome, obvious features that make a difference in everyday use.
It's on the road that the magic truly happens. The riding position has been redesigned for touring: a higher and wider handlebar, an adjustable bi-part saddle, increased passenger space. You can feel that Yamaha is targeting the long-distance rider who wants to devour kilometers without fatigue. The chassis follows suit: reinforced frame, swingarm extended by 40 mm, and above all, a new 41 mm adjustable inverted fork. The motorcycle gains rigidity and precision, promising sharper sensations. The braking system, with its new Advics and Nissin calipers, and the Michelin Road 6 GT tires, complete a very coherent package. It still weighs 203 kg fully fueled, a reasonable weight for this category.

And the heart? The 270° CP2 twin-cylinder engine is still there, faithful to its post. Its 73.4 horsepower and 68 Nm of torque remain unchanged, but Euro 5+ homologation and, above all, the arrival of an anti-backlash assisted clutch change the game. The lever is 22% lighter, and downshifts are smoother. The biggest novelty is the electronics. Finally, the Tracer 7 inherits an electronic throttle (Y-CCT), three riding modes (including one customizable) and a standard cruise control. Traction control, which is adjustable, also makes its appearance. This is a necessary upgrade compared to competitors such as the Honda CB500X or the Suzuki V-Strom 650, which remain more basic.

So, who is she? The Tracer 7 III is the intelligent touring bike. It will appeal to the experienced rider looking for a versatile, comfortable, and now better-equipped companion, without breaking the bank. At €9,999, it hits the mark. It doesn't have the madness of an Aprilia Tuono 660 or the raw character of a Kawasaki Z650, but it offers a balance and serenity that are difficult to beat. Yamaha hasn't reinvented the wheel, they've just made it rounder. And sometimes, that's all it takes.
