Overview

The Suzuki 650 V-Strom XT will certainly be making its last laps by 2026. Once the remaining stock is sold out, it will be time to say "goodbye" to the 650 V-Strom family; Suzuki is not giving it the Euro5+ upgrade.

However, this XT is certainly the one that best meets what the public expects from a mid-size trail bike from Suzuki at the lowest price. Except that there has been an 800 V-Strom DE in the range for some time now.... We'll come back to that. But let's get back to our family story. Why take an XT when the standard model is so accessible? You're going to see, there are only a few extra elements... and yet it is these that change everything and make you say: "Ah yeah. That's what I like!". So, what more does this XT have!?

A more adventurous spirit. A pair of spoked rims and an engine guard are all it takes to give it the desire to cross a few escapades. If the wheels are more suited to handling the hazards of a trail, the engine guard is more artificial. Certainly, it enhances the belly of the V-Strom, but its plastic construction will last much less than an aluminum element. Essential on a mountain trail bike, a pair of handguards complete the equipment of this XT. It costs a small 3 kilos extra.

Evolving in step with the standard V-Strom 650, the XT benefits from the same developments. Its entirely copied lines from the 1000 give it a good punch, in a silhouette that must be appreciated. The 645 cm3 twin produces 71 horsepower, two more than previously, after having benefited from a significant update to comply with standards. 2021 imposes Euro 5, forcing Suzuki to make a few technical modifications. The watts are not impacted.

For the road, the mid-size trail bike has a 20-liter tank, an aluminum perimeter frame, a 12V socket, 2-level traction control + off, a 43 mm fork, a pair of 310 mm brake discs with 2-piston calipers at the front + a 260 mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear, ABS and an adjustable bubble. In terms of ease of use, the V-Strom enhances everyday life with Easy Start and Low RPM Assist.

Delivered as it is, the 650 V-Strom XT still leaves a small feeling of lack. The center stand, even more than on the standard version, should be supplied as standard. Once underway, the machine only asks to cross roads of all kinds, with a poise that no longer makes it go unnoticed.

For those who would be tempted to go further but without going through the big 1050, Suz launched the V-Strom 800 D.E. With an 84 horsepower engine, more sophisticated electronics, a more marked off-road claim and a more muscular level of equipment.
