Overview
What if a motorcycle’s beauty lay in what it suggests rather than what it displays? This is the bold, almost philosophical, gamble taken by Suzuki Italia with this YUGEN special series for the GSX-S 750. A name that evokes a deep and mysterious beauty, a concept far too refined to be summed up by a simple sticker on a fairing. Here, the approach is more tangible: this effective roadster is fitted with equipment designed to reveal its soul, or at least, to liberate the voice of its engine.

Because the heart of the matter is this engine. A 749 cm3 inline four-cylinder engine, directly inherited from the GSX-R ranges, which already provides a solid base of 114 horsepower at 10,500 rpm. But the Italians felt that this breath was too refined. They therefore equipped it with an SC Project SC1-R muffler, in titanium or carbon fiber as a choice, which lightens the rear by more than two kilos and, above all, releases a handful of extra horsepower. We are talking about a gain of around 6 hp and 5 Nm, bringing the beast to approximately 120 horsepower. It's not a revolution, but it's a statement of intent: this roadster now wants to be heard. Combined with details such as a smoked windscreen, LED turn signals, and a minimalist license plate holder, the result is a cohesive ensemble that muscles up the attitude without falling into the fault of bad taste.
On paper, the cocktail remains seductive. For an additional cost of around 300 euros compared to the standard version, you get a motorcycle with an accentuated character, visually more refined, and sonically more engaging. The chassis, with its steel perimeter frame and 41 mm inverted fork, remains a reliable and predictable playground to exploit the 213 kg fully fueled. It thus positions itself as a charming alternative to more radical competitors such as the Yamaha MT-09, more brutal, or the Kawasaki Z900, more immediately nervous. The GSX-S 750 YUGEN plays a more subtle part, that of the refined and balanced roadster, which gains personality without sacrificing its accessibility.
So, for whom does this Italian creation run? For the rider who seeks the soul of a sportbike in a more relaxed environment, for whom sound and detail are an integral part of the pleasure of ownership. It will appeal to those who find neo-retro roadsters sometimes too tame and hyper-nakes too exuberant. It is a motorcycle with character for mixed use, capable of shining on a winding road as well as being discreet in the city, thanks to a seat height of 820 mm which remains reasonable.
Ultimately, this YUGEN special series is much more than just a makeover. It's a successful spotlight on the intrinsic qualities of the GSX-S 750, a motorcycle often underestimated. It proves that with a few judicious modifications, one can infuse a true personality into an already very competent base. Remains to be seen whether the French market, perhaps more pragmatic, will be sensitive to this Italian mechanical poetry. One thing is certain: it gives ideas.
