Overview
If the Superveloce is certainly one of the most beautiful sportbikes currently available, it is also one of the MV-Agusta models most prolific in special series. The beautiful machine is starting its 3rd season of sales, with already 6 variations in its record: Oro–S–75th Anniversary–Alpine–Ago– and this time Testalarga.
We won’t yet praise the aesthetics of this MV. Everything has already been said about it. But while we’s talking about aesthetics, let’s linger a little by noting that most of the parts made of this material have been replaced with carbon fiber. The fairing, its belly pan, the mudguards and the wheel arch adopt the black material.
On second glance, the Testalarga copies the deco of the Ago model. Just a little retouched to give it more aggression. The spoked rims, as well as the frame, are covered with a shade between gold and bronze. A few holes appear on the bow, officially to improve the cooling of the exhaust line. The typical Superveloce bubble visor has returned, while the Ago didn’t have it. Ultimately, the line loses a little purity but gains dynamism. Underneath, however, we are in the standards of the 800 S.
MV doesn’t miss an opportunity to recall the numbers associated with its legend. Either the 37 to honor its constructors’ world championship titles, or the 1 in reference to the king Agostini. This time, it’s a 3. Perhaps in reference to the number of cylinders in its engine… or rather to complete the memory linked to its surname. “Testa Larga” was the nickname given to the Grand Prix bike of the 1970s, a 3-cylinder as well. The nickname comes from the oversized size of the cylinder heads of the engine. This Superveloce intends to remind us of the 1973 model, a true victory machine. An important year for the MV-Agusta group. It was at this time that it split into two independent entities; helicopters on one side, bikes on the other.
Let’s think about a few refinements for this special model and above all VERY limited. A single example is on the program – we don’t even know if it will be sold or just built as a demonstration. A plate on the fork tube attests to its exclusivity. The Testalarga receives a double transparent clutch cover, the famous leather belt in the middle of the tank, vintage Arrow silencers, a perforated red leather seat, a quick-opening tank cap and a seat backrest.
We shouldn’t expect technical evolution. The Superveloce Testalarga is built, like the others, on an F3 800 chassis-engine assembly. Enough to have beautiful sporty sessions and trajectories with 147 horsepower at your disposal, plenty of electronic assists, an adjustable Marzocchi inverted fork, a fully adjustable Sachs shock absorber, Brembo M4 and 9 seconds to reach 200 km/h. More than anything, it’s about finding a way to take possession of it.
