Overview
What's the point of a limited series when the heart of the brand seems to be beating uncertainly? MV Agusta, in a period where partnership announcements with KTM seem more solid than new developments, chooses to celebrate its history rather than reinvent it. For its 80th anniversary, named Ottantesimo, it draws from its arsenal the most evocative weapon: the Superveloce 800 S. This is not just a machine; it's a manifesto.

The choice is logical. The Superveloce is the perfect embodiment of the MV neo-retro aesthetic: it takes the technical base of the F3 800, a pure sportbike, and dresses it in an aesthetic that speaks directly to nostalgics of the 1960s. This Ottantesimo version accentuates this with a satin red and grey paint scheme, machined Millerighe wheels that seem straight out of a vintage catalog, a red Alcantara seat, and even a reworked logo in a vintage style. It emphasizes its pedigree to the point of writing "Emmevi" on the tank's shoulder, a small phonetic provocation for those who mispronounce it. Everything is done so you feel the history, not just look at it.
But beneath this elegant exterior, it's a sportbike that compromises nothing. The 798 cm3 mechanical trio, already lively with 147 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and 88 Nm of torque, benefits here from specific Arrow exhausts. They release 153 horsepower and reduce dry weight to 189.5 kg. A significant gain, especially considering that the engine has also been reworked to meet Euro5+ standards and a new clutch reduces lever effort by 50%. The base is solid: trellis frame, 43 mm inverted fork and fully adjustable monoshock, Brembo Stylema brakes, Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires. The electronics are a modern arsenal: Cornering ABS, 8-level traction control, quickshifter, wheelie control, cruise control, 5.5-inch connected TFT screen. It has the tools to race.

The target audience is clear: the passionate collector, the one who wants a unique machine capable of shining in the city or on a winding road, but also of telling a story. With only 500 units, a numbered plate on the headstock, and a certificate of authenticity, MV Agusta is selling a desirable object more than just a means of transportation. At €24,500, the price is high, but it corresponds to this niche where emotion and exclusivity prevail over rationality.

Compared to a Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS or a Ducati Streetfighter V4, the Superveloce Ottantesimo is not in the same battle of brute power. It plays on another terrain: that of charisma, elegance, and emotional connection. It’s a motorcycle that speaks to you before transporting you. For some, that's worth all the horsepower in the world. For MV Agusta, in this period of transition, it may be the best way to remind everyone why it exists.
