Overview
Who said beauty couldn’t be brutal? The Varese legend, in its quest for the absolute, delivers to us here a machine that borders on obsession. The MV Agusta F4 RR, in its 2018 iteration, is not a motorcycle you stumble across by chance. It's an object of desire, a declaration of war against conventions, a concentration of Italian technology aimed squarely at the heart of the most demanding track riders. With a new price hovering around €28,000, it immediately places itself in the arena of exceptional hypersports, alongside the Panigale V4 S and the RSV4 RF. But unlike its rivals, it doesn’t seek forgiveness.

Beneath its sculpted fairing beats a heart of fire, an inline four-cylinder Corsacorta engine whose philosophy is clear: to chase horsepower at high RPM. The engine, with its short stroke of 50.9 mm, is a marvel of mechanics boosted by variable intake and titanium valves. The result? 201 horsepower at 13,600 rpm, a howl that approaches 14,000 rpm and a top speed flirting with 300 km/h. It’s more than just an engine; it’s a jet that demands absolute concentration from its rider. The electronic management, with its maps and 8-level traction control, attempts to channel the beast, but the very essence of this F4 RR 1000 remains wild, theatrical. It’s far from the placidity of a Japanese bike; here, every acceleration is an event.
To handle this fury, the chassis is a precision tool. The CrMo steel trellis frame, a signature of the brand, is paired with an Öhlins fork and shock absorber with electronic adjustment. The braking system, signed Brembo with its monoblock calipers, is of a ferocity that inspires confidence. But don’t be fooled: with a dry weight of 190 kg and an aggressive riding position, the RR is not an easy motorcycle. It is rigid, direct, almost surgical. It doesn’t flatter; it demands. It rewards the pure gesture but punishes the slightest approximation mercilessly. It’s this demand that makes it unique, but also makes it a difficult companion for open roads. Its 17-liter fuel tank and 830 mm seat height recall that its primary vocation is the circuit.
Today, finding an MV Agusta F4 RR used, whether it's a 2011, 2014, 2017, or 2019 model, is acquiring a piece of history. The RR, before the arrival of the even more radical F4 RC, was the flagship of the range. Each evolution, such as the Bosch ABS in 2014 or the electronic suspension settings, has refined the weapon. However, its future has darkened with emission regulations, making models like the 2018 or 2020 icons that may be disappearing. This adds to its aura, but also to a certain feeling of melancholy.
So, who is this machine for? Certainly not for a beginner, nor even for a touring rider seeking comfort. The F4 RR is the Holy Grail of the collector-racer, of those who seek raw emotion, perfect aesthetics, and pure mechanical connection. It is less versatile than a BMW S1000RR, less forgiving than a Yamaha R1M. But it offers something inimitable: the feeling of riding a work of art in motion. A test ride on the MV Agusta F4 RR is not summarized; it is lived, sometimes endured, and marks you forever. It is the last of a royal lineage, a howl of metal and passion in a world that is becoming uniform.
