Overview
What drives a manufacturer to completely rethink an already high-performing engine rather than simply increasing its displacement? At MV Agusta, the answer comes down to two Italian words: Corsa Corta. Short stroke. That is the entire philosophy behind the MV Agusta F4 1000 RR, model year 2015, which represents the pinnacle of the Varese firm's sportbike range, sitting just below the RC reserved for Superbike purists. To break the symbolic 200-horsepower barrier without exceeding the regulation one-liter limit, the engineers radically redesigned the inline four-cylinder architecture. The bore increases to 79 mm, while the stroke drops to 50.9 mm. The result: an ultra-oversquare engine that hunts for its power high in the rev range, delivering 201 hp at 13,600 rpm with a redline pushed to 14,000 rpm. The 113.8 Nm of torque at 9,600 rpm is no slouch either. Titanium valves, connecting rods of the same metal, redesigned exhaust headers, and variable-length intake trumpets all contribute to that willingness to rev. Add a quickshifter, a slipper clutch, and a six-speed cassette gearbox, and you get a powertrain that positively reeks of the racetrack.

The MV Agusta F4 1000 RR's spec sheet is dizzying, but it is in the chassis details that the machine reveals its true nature. The tubular trellis frame bolted to aluminum side plates carries over from the standard F4, then refines it everywhere. Beneath the bodywork, fully electronically adjustable Öhlins suspension is controlled from the dashboard: a 43 mm NIX inverted fork with separate compression and rebound damping on each leg, and a TTX36 rear shock adjustable in length to alter the bike's attitude. Only the rear preload still requires a wrench. Braking duties fall to radially mounted Brembo M50 monoblock calipers biting two 320 mm discs up front and a 210 mm disc at the rear, all backed by the Bosch 9MP Race ABS fitted as standard since 2014. Forged aluminum wheels help keep the claimed dry weight down to 190 kg. For a hypersport of this caliber, that is a compelling argument indeed.
What is the power output of the MV Agusta F4 1000 RR? Over 200 hp, then, but that figure only tells part of the story. This motorcycle is not simply ridden — it is tamed. Where a Kawasaki ZX-10R or a BMW S 1000 RR guide you with benevolent electronics and ergonomics designed for the widest audience, the F4 RR demands that its rider impose their will. The chassis, rigid and precise like a surgical instrument, requires constant physical commitment to hold the machine on line. The seat perched at 830 mm, the 17-liter tank that limits range, the hunched-over position on the clip-on handlebars: nothing is designed for road comfort. This is a track bike lost on the street, capable of flirting with a top speed of 298 km/h.
What is the price of an MV Agusta F4 1000 RR? In 2015, it was listed at 25,990 euros, a positioning that placed it squarely against the Aprilia RSV4 and above the Japanese competition. Today, finding a used MV Agusta F4 1000 RR requires patience and discernment. The 2011, 2012, or 2013 model years trade at varying prices depending on condition and mileage, but values remain buoyed by the machine's near-mythical status. The Corsa Corta version, introduced on the 2012 models and refined through 2019 and 2020, represents the holy grail for knowledgeable collectors. This F4 is not a rational motorcycle. It is a work of mechanical art, built for the demanding track rider or the enthusiast willing to live with an uncompromising character. Against its more docile rivals, it counters with a sharp-edged personality and a level of technical refinement that justify every euro of its price.
