Overview
Can a mid-range supersport truly possess the soul of a factory machine? In 2016, Kawasaki took a gamble with this ZX-6R 636, dressed in KRT colors. While the Yamaha R6 played the card of extreme purity and the GSX-R750 that of generosity, Kawasaki has always cultivated a small singularity with its 636 cm3 displacement. Here, it pushes the concept a step further by offering a range of accessories that smell of the track. The idea is clear: to make you believe, for the duration of an acceleration, that you are riding the little brother of the world champion ZX-10R.

Under the 17-liter fuel tank, the 636 cm3 inline four-cylinder engine has not fundamentally changed. It delivers 134 horsepower at 13,500 rpm, a respectable but not revolutionary figure. What makes the difference is its torque. With 72.6 Nm available at 11,500 rpm, it offers a wider usable range than its strict 600 cm3 competitors. The machine does not need to live constantly in the high revs to move forward, a definite asset on the open road. Of course, when you rev it, it responds present with a sharp howl that delights the ears, especially equipped with the carbon Akrapovic exhaust offered in this Performance pack. This little gem weighs the machine down by 2.5 kg and adds 2.9 horsepower and 1.3 Nm of torque. It's not a revolution, but it's pure happiness.
The chassis, for its part, is a model of precision. The perimeter aluminum frame and the 41 mm inverted fork offer sharp and reassuring handling. With a wet weight of 192 kg, it is not the lightest in its class, but its balance is exemplary. The braking, with its 310 mm front discs and radial calipers, inspires absolute confidence. You can feel that this motorcycle was designed to be pushed, to scrape your knee on a circuit on Sunday. The seat height of 830 mm may impress smaller riders, but once underway, the riding position, engaged but not extreme, proves surprisingly tolerable for a sportbike.
So, who is this special edition for? Clearly for the Sunday track rider or the demanding road rider who wants a little more character and flair than a standard supersport. At 14,449 euros, it is not cheap. You are paying for the prestige of the KRT livery and the Akrapovic exhaust. Is it justified? For a stopwatch purist, perhaps not. But for those who want a unique machine, with an aggressive look and an enchanting sound, capable of shining both in the mountain passes and in parking lots, the argument is compelling. It is not the most radical, but it is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic and versatile of its generation. A sportbike that embraces its little excess of personality, and that's rather refreshing.
