Overview
When we talk about the queen of hypersportives, there are those who make noise and those who inflict pain. The 2017 Kawasaki ZX-10RR clearly belongs to the latter category. While Yamaha with its R1 and Aprilia with its RSV4 RR jostle for position on the podium of sophisticated electronics, the Ninja remains true to its philosophy: a sharp mechanical scalpel, ready to devour asphalt without fuss. At over €21,000, it is not aimed at the Sunday enthusiast, but at the purebred track rider looking for a competition base for the road, or at the demanding collector.

Under its fairing, which hasn't really aged, beats the heart of a wildcat. The 998 cm3 inline four-cylinder engine doesn't need turbos or gadgets to unleash its 201 horsepower at 13,000 rpm. It is a machine that demands to be ridden in the high revs, where its 114 Nm of torque is released with contained rage. The perimeter aluminum frame and the 43 mm Showa BPF fork ensure surgical precision handling, almost making you forget the 204 kg when fully loaded. On the track, it is deceptively docile, transforming the rider into an extension of the mechanics.
The "RR" designation and the Performance pack are not just for show. This is where Kawasaki brings out the heavy artillery for purists. We are talking about a specific cylinder head, lightweight parts, and above all, this gem that is the Akrapovic “WSBK Replica” carbon exhaust. It's not just an aesthetic accessory for a hoarse sound; it's a weight reduction of nearly a kilo and a handful of extra horsepower, directly inherited from experience in the world championship. It is a technical gesture, almost a tribute, that anchors the motorcycle in the yard of the big sister competition bikes.
However, at this price, some may complain. Where is the racing bubble, the adjustable footrests, or a stand worthy of the name? Kawasaki seems to say: "Superfluous things, we don't care." The philosophy is clear: we give you the essentials of competition, the rest is up to you. Faced with a more versatile and technological BMW S 1000 RR, the ZX-10RR assumes its sharp, specialized tool side. It doesn't seek to be everyone's best friend in everyday life, but the ultimate accomplice for a Sunday on the track or a winding mountain road.
Ultimately, this ZX-10RR Performance is a UFO in the landscape of road hypersportives. It doesn't try to please everyone. It is aimed at those who understand that the quintessence of performance comes from the simplicity and brute efficiency of a mechanically honed to the highest level. It is a demanding, proud motorcycle, which reminds you with every acceleration that, sometimes, the most advanced technology is the one that is forgotten in favor of the pure feeling of riding. A missile, yes, but guided with terrifying precision.
