Overview
They call her the Green Queen, and for good reason. In 2017, when talking about a Superbike homologated for the road, one machine stands out through its aura and its WSBK pedigree: the Kawasaki ZX-10R. But the Performance version pushes the bar a notch further, towards a territory where the boundary between the road and the race pit disappears. Is it still a production motorcycle or already a slightly civilized track tool? In truth, it balances superbly between the two, with an obviousness that commands respect.

Under the fairing, the inline four-cylinder engine of 998 cm³ has not fundamentally changed, but it breathes better. The original Akrapovic kit releases a few extra horsepower and, above all, a rough and authoritative voice that makes you forget the polite silence of the standard version. The 200 horsepower at 13,000 rpm are there, brutal, but remarkably channeled by state-of-the-art electronics. The torque of 113.8 Nm arrives high in the rev range, requiring you to keep the engine boiling, but what a reward when the gauge approaches the redline. Faced with a BMW S 1000 RR or a Yamaha YZF-R1, the Ninja bets everything on aggressiveness and raw connection, where its rivals may seem more polished, more electronically smoothed.
The chassis, for its part, is a lesson in efficiency. The perimeter aluminum frame, adjustable Showa suspension, and radial front braking transform each corner into a precision exercise. At 205 kg fully fueled, it is not the lightest in its class, but its balance and predictable behavior inspire incredible confidence. The 835 mm seat may intimidate those of smaller stature, but once in motion, the motorcycle melts beneath you. The 17-liter tank reminds you that it can, theoretically, be used on the road, but let's admit it: its natural element is the racetrack. The Performance version adds gel protections, a solo seat cowl, and that Akrapovic exhaust that saves a symbolic kilo. It’s a shame the complete racing kit is not included; that would have been the icing on this already very sweet cake.
So, who is this beast for? Clearly not for beginners, nor even for Sunday riders. The ZX-10R Performance is aimed at the experienced track rider looking for the sharpest, most direct tool to attack their track lap. It demands commitment, technique, and an educated wrist. Its price of 18,999 euros at the time placed it at the top of the range, but it justified every euro by its potential and competition heritage. If you dream of pure sensations, roaring mechanics, and an organic connection with the asphalt, this Ninja remains an absolute reference. Just one piece of advice: save it for track days, that’s where it will reveal all its champion’s soul to you.
