Overview
You dream of a Harley-Davidson, but your budget makes you look towards the East? The Kawasaki VN 900 Classic Special Edition of 2014 might be the answer, this Japanese motorcycle that confidently plays in the American style. With its 903 cc V2 engine, it offers 48 horsepower and a torque of 78 Nm from 3700 rpm, figures that speak more to the stomach than to the speedometer. A top speed of 180 km/h is not its objective, but the feeling of power at low rpm, characteristic of a true custom, is well present.

Its look is an interesting blend of classicism and dark modernity. The Special Edition version plays with matte black, which invades the forks, the engine casings and the air filter, tempering the usual omnipresence of chrome. The two-tone paint and specific logo on the 20-liter tank add a touch of personality. It retains the fundamentals: spoked rims, a large handlebar, and this hard-tail silhouette that turns heads. But with 282 kg fully fueled and a low seat at 680 mm, it remains accessible, far from 300 kg monsters.
Compared to a Honda Shadow 750 or a Suzuki C50, the Kawasaki VN 900 Classic stands out with its slightly larger engine and more imposing frame. Its final transmission by belt is a plus for silence and maintenance. However, the 5-speed gearbox and Uni-Trak rear suspension remind you that this is a Japanese machine, efficient but sometimes less charismatic than its American rivals. The braking, with two simple discs, is sufficient without being sporty.
Who is it for? For the rider who wants the essence of a great custom, without the price or demanding maintenance of a Harley. Beginners will find its easy handling thanks to the low center of gravity, the touring rider will appreciate its generous torque for long journeys, even if the fuel tank requires regular stops. The track rider, on the other hand, will pass by: this motorcycle is made to ride straight and feel the engine vibrate, not to attack corners.
Ultimately, at 9099 euros, the Kawasaki VN 900 Classic Special Edition 2014 is an honest offer. It doesn't revolutionize anything, but it offers a coherent package: a credible custom style, robust mechanics and ergonomics adapted to the majority. It is proof that you can have presence on the road without selling your house. An intelligent compromise, neither perfect nor exhilarating, but very reasonable.
