Overview
The Indian Challenger offers a new Elite configuration, adorned with a commemorative touch. For reference, this trim level is the Springfield manufacturer's top-of-the-line offering, in the same vein as the CVO from the competitor next door. It has been associated with the Challenger since 2022 and accompanies it each year. The large bagger therefore presents itself with an even more premium feel, emphasized by a two-tone show suit. This is to properly respect and honor the 125th anniversary of the brand.
It was in 1901 that everything began, with a small motorized bike weighing around 110 pounds, created by Oscar Hedström and George M. Hendee, and powered by a single-cylinder engine inspired by the French De Dion-Bouton engine. 125 years later, the engine is 1830 cm3, delivers 18.5 mkg of torque, and the machine weighs close to 400 kilos. These are eloquent figures, as is the amount of work involved in the paintwork. Dressing it in "Anniversary Red & Black Crystal" takes more than 30 hours of hand-applied work.
The result is a motorcycle full of power, expression and scope, both dark in its light and noble under the spotlights. A vessel, whose opulence expresses the America of large ranches and small reserves. It’s not as wide as the road, but it makes you think it is. Then, on board, you discover that JR Ewing wouldn’s have dared to smoke a cigar in it.
The central console receives the number in its limited series, allowing you to identify which of the 250 copies you have between the grips. The Challenger displays several other details specific to this edition, such as the diamond-stitched seat with decorative stitching and an embroidered logo, badges on the engine casings, a set of specific inscriptions on the tank, and clothing from the same collection in the accessories corner.
This version also receives an adaptive cornering headlight, a smoked windshield, specific rims, adjustable passenger footpegs, a 400-watt audio system with 4 speakers, a pair of additional front headlights and rear auxiliary lights.
In terms of equipment, the Challenger is originally a large sandwich. As standard, Indian incorporates this huge 112 PowerPlus engine with 122 horsepower, a 43 mm inverted fork, Brembo radial 4-piston brakes, three Riding Modes, traction control, a radar system (blind spot monitoring and multiple approach detection alerts), linked braking, rear cylinder deactivation, a Ride Command multimedia system with a 7-inch color TFT screen, a GPS navigator, Bluetooth, keyless start, a USB port, cruise control, tire pressure monitoring and centralized locking.
With this Challenger, it’s a large piece of passion and a significant slice of history that wants to take to the road. There’s even more with the Roadmaster 125th Anniversary (powered by the air-cooled Thunderstroke 116) but it’s not planned for the European catalog. Never mind; Europe is big enough for this kind of challenge ;-).
