Overview
The Springfield is gradually becoming a model apart within the Indian lineup. Almost all of its motorcycles have changed their appearance for a more "modern" look. Whereas this one preserves, maintains, and asserts a very classic identity of an old, burly bagger. To be frank: it exudes the America of cowboys, vast cornfields, and Plymouths watching over cinema parking lots at night.
A crisp scent of a final showing that reaches another level with this Special Edition. Timeless and iconic with its typical skirt-like fenders and its length, the Springfield gives the impression of hugging the ground. A distinguished heft, like the States of yesteryear, of its grand projects and its desire for greatness.
This limited series stands out with its Cream Ivory paint accented with the red specific to Indian – its signature color, dating back to 1904. Some metallic "Anniversary Gold" stripes wander across the surface, trying to capture a bit of light alongside the numerous chromes.
Between the rounded cylinder heads, a special numbered badge authenticates the rarity of this model. 50 units will be produced, and not for everyone – for example, the United Kingdom will only receive one unit - The United States none. The few countries that will receive this Springfield with a powerful and creamy flavor will enjoy this exclusivity as privileged individuals; but will rush off with the twin’s force like everyone else. Indian hasn’t retouched it, just decorated it. A large block, American to the very tips of the fins, letting modern engines equipping the FTR or the Challenger/Pursuit move into the present. Here, it’s substantial at every level, a hoarse sound, up to 17.4 mkg of torque swallowed by the Thunderstroke 116.
Besides the two-tone paint, the Special Edition is enhanced with a Havana brown leather seat with fringe, accompanied by a standard sissy-bar. There will be no further refinements: the standard Springfield already offers some: keyless start, cruise control, adjustable rider and passenger footpegs, tool-free removable windshield, USB socket, three Riding Modes, automatic rear cylinder deactivation, front and rear crash bars, centralized locking, and tire pressure monitoring.
Indian specifies that "This will be the last opportunity to acquire the iconic Indian Springfield in certain European markets." It is quite possible that this motorcycle will be subject to change for the next model year, abandoning the charm of the mid-XXth century to join a more trendy style. Time moves on, and so does Indian.
