Overview
One hundred and twenty-five years. That is how long it took Indian Motorcycle to survive wars, bankruptcies, acquisitions, and rebirths, arriving in 2026 with an anniversary Roadmaster that weighs 404 kilograms and delivers 170.8 Nm of torque available from 2,900 rpm. The Springfield brand is not celebrating quietly.

The Thunder Stroke 116 in its displacement-enlarged 1890 cc form remains a 49-degree V-twin that beats to its own rhythm. With a bore of 103.2 mm and a stroke of 113 mm, this is clearly an undersquare engine, built for low-rpm torque rather than high-revving performance. The claimed 90 horsepower may draw a smile compared to the Gold Wing and its 125 hp, but the philosophy is entirely different. Indian embraces a deliberately American character: you ride below 3,000 rpm, you feel the engine working, you make no attempt to imitate a sportbike. The 6-speed gearbox and belt drive complete the picture: smoothness, discretion, minimal maintenance.
The cast aluminum frame supports all of this with a seat height of 711 mm, which remains accessible for a touring rider of average build. The 46 mm telescopic fork offers 119 mm of travel, the rear monoshock 114 mm. This is not trail suspension, but for swallowing miles of highway or open road, the setup is more than adequate. The 300 mm disc brakes on both ends, with a 4-piston caliper up front, inspire confidence in the ability to bring this mass to a halt with composure. Because 404 kilograms fully loaded demands anticipation.

What Indian is selling with this 125th Anniversary Edition is not simply a motorcycle. It is a declaration of belonging. American grand touring has its codes, its exclusive color schemes, its refined finishes that justify the premium price positioning. Against the Harley-Davidson Road Glide, the battle is fought as much on image as on miles. Indian plays the card of distinction, of the scarcity tied to the anniversary, of a heritage that Harley cannot claim in quite the same way — it was Indian, after all, that led the way first. A top speed of 180 km/h and an 20.8-liter fuel tank sketch the profile of a grand tourer capable of covering 300 kilometers between stops without strain.

This is not a motorcycle for everyone, and that is precisely what it sets out to be. The beginner will walk past this imposing size and weight. The seasoned touring rider looking to make a statement on long cross-country journeys — in search of a collector's piece as much as a travel tool — will find here a coherent proposition. The Roadmaster 125th Anniversary Edition makes no attempt to appeal to the masses. It speaks to those who know exactly why they are buying it, and who need no explanation of what a century and a quarter of American motorcycle history actually means.
