Overview
Thirty thousand euros. The sum is enough to make you cough, and yet Energica demands it without flinching for its 2017 Eva, an electric naked bike born from the workshops of Modena with the ambition of embodying the future at Italian pace. We could have smirked. We would have been wrong.

What strikes you first is the coherence of the project. Where many manufacturers have cobbled together an electric motorization onto an existing chassis, Energica engineers thought of everything together. The trellis steel frame accommodates a battery and a permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 109 horsepower and, above all, 169.7 Nm available from the first turn of the wheel. This massive torque, without the intermediary of a gear change, transforms every start into a silent catapult. Top speed is limited to 200 km/h, which clearly places the Eva in the same league as high-end thermal naked bikes. An MT-09 or a Street Triple RS wouldn't laugh for long at a common traffic light.
The downside is the dry weight announced at 258 kilograms. For a motorcycle without a gearbox, without a bulky radiator, without a fuel tank, that’s heavy. The battery weighs its price, both literally and figuratively, and this figure recalls that of a large touring bike. In the city, at low speeds, you feel this mass. The 43 mm inverted fork and the single rear shock absorber handle the situation correctly, the Brembo calipers provide braking power to match, but the urban rider who hopes to slalom like on a 400 cm³ will quickly be brought back to reality.
The Eva is therefore aimed at a specific profile: the tech-savvy motorcyclist, convinced by electric mobility, who has a garage to recharge serenely and who is looking for a motorcycle with a strong character rather than a simple utility vehicle. It’s not a beginner's machine, neither in terms of power nor in terms of format. On the other hand, it’s a coherent proposition for an experienced driver who wants to break away from thermal engines without sacrificing sensations. In 2017, when Zero Motorcycles offered less powerful models and high-cylinder electric bikes were counted on the fingers of one hand, the Eva occupied an almost empty territory.

The price remains the real question. Thirty thousand euros is twice a Kawasaki Z900, and the debate about real range in mixed use remains open. Energica has bet on the quality of the components, the credibility of the chassis and the sporty DNA to justify this premium positioning. It’s a bold gamble, not absurd, but which requires a sincere commitment from the buyer. Those who take the plunge rarely emerge indifferent.
