Overview
In a subtle or spectacular fashion, the Multistrada has evolved to present this fourth version (to recall: 2003: 1000 MTS; 2007: 1100 MTS; 2010: 1200 MTS; 2013: 1200 MTS "2"). For this second opus of the second generation, Ducati implements numerous changes: a 150 horsepower Testastretta engine reworked for more torque and flexibility, ABS with 3 levels, a very slight facelift of the front end, LED lights, a more protective screen, Panigale-style rims... and the most spectacular change: the S version features a profound modification of its suspension.
For decades, the S models from Bologna have been equipped with Öhlins. In 2013, the Multistrada S Touring changed the game and abandoned the Swedish suspension in favor of the all-new Skyhook system. What’s that? Simply put: a fork and a Sachs shock absorber with semi-active electronic management. More complex: the Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) is a large gas factory to adapt the damping in real time. It begins by installing a series of sensors on the bike: vertical accelerometers are placed on the lower fork stem and on the rear frame to provide so-called "suspended" data. Another series of sensors, mounted near the wheels on the fork and swingarm, transmit so-called "non-suspended" information. To complement this information on the machine's movements, the DSS also analyzes the data from the traction control longitudinal accelerometers and the ABS pressure sensors. Feeling dizzy? That’s not the case with the Skyhook: it synthesizes all this data and then reacts by immediately adapting the compression or rebound damping. The real-time adjustment takes into account the Riding Mode used. Each of them can be complemented by a selection "rider alone," "rider with luggage," "rider and passenger," or "rider and passenger with luggage." With all this, the bike provides you with a tailored damping system supported by self-adaptation based on the road profile and riding style.
Without preamble and with more conviction, the Multistrada S Touring gives itself more resources to strengthen its efficiency and versatility. In terms of comfort, we find a corresponding equipment: heated grips, 58 liters of capacity in the cases, two 12V sockets, center stand, two glove compartments, hands-free start, etc... The MTS 1200 2013 takes the opportunity to inaugurate a new mixed tire, the Pirelli Scorpion Trail, with a dual-compound component.
Equipped with a real technological arsenal and formidable firepower, the Multistrada 1200 in this S Touring version asserts itself as the reference for the sporty touring trail bike. The price will be in line with the requirements of the realization. And for those aiming for increased travel capabilities, Ducati offers a more upscale version: the Granturismo.
