Overview

BMW likes to share its visions of the future; short, medium, or long term, as readily realistic as they are fantastical. Thus, the F 450 GS concept announces a trail of the same name for late 2025. Conversely, the Next 100 showed us a glimpse of the motorcycle in a century. For the Vision CE, ideas combine into an urban mobility solution, omnipresent protection, electric, and adventure.

With its large cage-arches, this very particular machine reinvents an iconoclastic machine from BMW’s history: the C1 scooter from the 2000s. With its large windshield and integrated roof, this model (available in 125 cm3 and 175 cm3) offered serious protection from the elements and allowed legal riding without a helmet.

The Vision CE takes up this idea, in a more rugged and exploratory style. It’s as if it escaped from a laboratory or a lunar station. With its tubular arches, it allows the removal of the helmet and protective clothing. A seatbelt prevents the rider from being ejected.

The cockpit meets current high-end BMW standards. The handlebar coexists with a keyless start system as well as a large color TFT screen (the 10.25 inches of the brand’s large touring models?). The technical configuration allows external scents to invade the cabin as desired but a set of transparent shells has been designed to make the Vision CE impervious to wind and rain.

Under the skin, the Vision CE rests on a tubular steel structure, filled with battery, electrical systems, and installing the powertrain at the rear of the frame. The latter transmits its power (not communicated) via a belt while a monobrach handles the connection to the ground; a piece held by a prominently highlighted single shock absorber. Up front, a classic fork hides its simplicity under significant fairing.

As a concept, the Vision CE does not care about data concerning its power, its weight, or its performance. BMW still specifies that it has a function to completely balance itself when stopped - does it stand up on its own?

Is its presence as a production vehicle for tomorrow or a flow of years? Perhaps not in this form, but the idea of a “cage” is back at the Bavarian manufacturer and will not remain in the archives.
