Overview

On the occasion of the Wheels & Waves 2015 festival, BMW Motorrad unveiled its interpretation of a Scrambler: the BMW Concept Path 22.

Cooperation with Southsiders MC, Ornamental Conifer, and Dyer Brand.

The BMW Concept Path 22 is the result of a collaboration that goes far beyond just a motorcycle. Initiated by the organizers of Wheels & Waves, the motorcycle club "Southsiders MC," with its member Vincent Prat in particular, BMW Motorrad invited artist "Ornamental Conifer" and surfboard manufacturer "Dyer Brand" to collaborate with the manufacturer to bring the BMW Concept Path 22 to life.

The motorcycle – an expression of freedom.

"The BMW Concept Path 22 is synonymous with freedom – the freedom of thought, and the expression of that thought. What pleases is allowed, as at the Wheels & Waves festival. The Concept Path 22 is derived from the BMW R nineT, which for us is the very embodiment of a custom motorcycle. We want and must modify and personalize it to our liking. That's why the idea of a Scrambler is not new to us. And we thought that the time had come to present our interpretation of this legendary motorcycle concept," says Ola Stenegard, head of motorcycle design at BMW Motorrad. Typical of BMW, a powerful flat-twin engine and a cardan drive are at the heart of the BMW Concept Path 22. The monobrach swingarm reveals the view of the five-spoke rear wheel, as is customary at BMW. The rest of the motorcycle is just as bare. The classic round headlight, the tank, and a short seat give the motorcycle understated proportions, a sign of agility. Optically, the trim ends above the rear wheel hub and promises playful handling. The typical traits of a Scrambler, such as knobby tires, a larger front wheel, slightly increased suspension travel, and a high-mounted exhaust allow the motorcycle to evolve effortlessly on gravel or in the sand. At the same time, these elements are a guarantee of a striking appearance that announces at first glance the kind of adventures the BMW Concept Path 22 will allow you to live.

The pleasure of riding in its primitive form.

The BMW Concept Path 22 reveals maximum minimalism. Every shape, every surface has a function. That being said, every detail is an expression of both great aesthetics and mastery of artisanal skill. In addition to rustic elements such as the bellows on the front fork or the headlight grille, high-end details such as the stitched leather seat, the leather-covered grips, or the stainless steel exhaust tips in the typical Akrapovi? Scrambler style add exclusive touches. High-performance components from Öhlins and Gilles Tooling, refined technical solutions from MotoGadget, such as the indicators integrated into the ends of the handlebars and the instrument cluster, as well as the contrast-colored milled parts from Roland Sands Design underscore the high level of quality in the smallest detail. The contrast-colored milled aluminum wheels are unique parts exclusively manufactured by BMW Motorrad which complete the minimalist treated appearance with a prestigious touch. All parts of this study are the indispensable essence while offering the best possible quality. The BMW Concept Path 22 thus perfects the art of reduction and returns to the primitive origin of the motorcycle: the union between man and machine.

Riding the Waves - boards by Dyer Brand.

The surfboard rack on the right side of the BMW Concept Path 22 will not go unnoticed. Specially developed by BMW Motorrad, it too is reduced to the essentials, as functional and refined as the motorcycle. Made exclusively from aluminum profiles and leather, it is highly modular and adapts to surfboards of different dimensions. When not needed, it folds into the silhouette of the motorcycle or is removed in a turn of the wrist. As for the boards to which it is adapted, they are made by Mason Dyer himself, the brilliant shaper from Dyer Brand in San Diego. He is known for his high-quality custom boards inspired by the 1950s and 1960s. Exclusively for the BMW Concept Path 22, he created two custom boards: a longboard (9'4), reminiscent of the era of the Scrambler's birth, and a shortboard (6'8) meeting the requirements of modern surfers.

Expression of a zest for life.

The first Scramblers of the 1950s were modified road bikes, adapted for off-road use with knobby tires, increased suspension travel, and a high-mounted exhaust. This resulted in a typical appearance that became an expression of a state of mind. "Nothing goes better with Wheels & Waves than a Scrambler. A Scrambler is the very embodiment of a motorcycle that escapes norms and established conventions. Regardless of road performance, what matters is style and originality. The Scrambler is synonymous with passion and has as many facets as its owners. The Concept Path 22 is our derivative interpretation of the R nineT. The latter is an ideal base for being transformed into a Scrambler," says Edgar Heinrich, head designer at BMW Motorrad.
