Overview
Does an Italian roadster always have to be a V-twin to make a statement? In 2009, Benelli answers with a punch: the Tornado Naked Tre 1130 Sport Evo. Three cylinders, a red steel trellis frame like a pulsing vein, and a power output of 137 horsepower just waiting to explode. At nearly 16,000 euros, this machine isn’t here for small talk; it’s here to shake up the established order.

Its engine, an inline three-cylinder of 1130 cc, is already an oddity in the landscape of muscular roadsters. At 9250 rpm, it releases 137 hp, and its torque of 117.7 Nm at 6500 rpm ensures traction that relentlessly pulls. The real novelty here is the selectable mapping: soft or wild, the rider chooses how the horsepower arrives. There's no touching the raw power, just modifying its character. It’s an intelligent way to personalize the relationship, especially when the displayed weight reaches 215 kg fully fueled. For a three-cylinder engine, it’s somewhat massive, but the mechanics compensate with a liveliness that never lags.
Agility is the second battleground of this Sport Evo. The 50 mm Marzocchi inverted fork, adjustable in all parameters, and the single shock absorber offer 120 mm of travel, a serious foundation for tight curves. Brembo brakes, with radial calipers on 320 mm discs at the front, have the necessary grip to calm the ardor. And the lightweight OZ rims, directly from the Tornado RS, reduce unsprung masses. Add a few touches of carbon fiber, a 17-liter fuel tank, and a 780 mm accessible seat, and the machine is technically advanced without being intimidating.
On the market, it faces the Ducati Monster 1100 or the Aprilia Tuono V4, which are more well-known and often lighter. Benelli is playing its card of singularity here: a sonorous and sharp three-cylinder engine, a red-painted trellis frame, and a design that doesn’t go unnoticed. It targets the rider who is looking for an alternative to the V-twin, a roadster with a distinct mechanical personality, capable of exceeding 240 km/h without being asked. For the sporty touring rider or the character enthusiast, it offers a less conventional experience.
Ultimately, the Tornado Naked Tre 1130 Sport Evo is not the lightest, nor the most versatile. But it is one of the most charismatic. Its trio of cylinders offers a linear and sonorous power curve, its chassis is ready for the track, and its look, with that blood-red frame, remains provocative even today. A roadster for those who believe that a motorcycle should have a temperament, not just a specification sheet.
