Overview
We’ve always dreamed of having in our garage a true race machine, the one that smells of gasoline and resin, not dealerships. In 2000, Aprilia fulfilled this madness for 150 privileged individuals with the RSV Mille SP. This isn’t an R version dressed in stickers; it’s the factory Superbike, pure and hard, delivered with its passport for the track and the tacit prohibition of riding on the road.

Under the carbon fairing, the mechanics underwent a transformation treatment signed by Cosworth. The V2 sees its bore increased and its stroke shortened, the compression ratio climbs, the valves are enlarged. As a result, the twin-cylinder spits out 150 horsepower at 11,000 rpm, with a reinforced torque of 10% that gives the impression of pulling the chain like an elastic band. Next to it, a standard RSV-R almost looks like a road bike. Everything was designed for the stopwatch: the engine and swingarm are mounted on adjustable anchor points, as is the steering column. We are in precision surgery.
Lightness is a religion. The fuel tank remains at 20 liters, but the scale shows 185 kilograms dry weight, a draconian regime achieved through a rain of carbon and titanium parts, such as the double racing exhaust. The 43 mm Öhlins suspensions at the front and the mono-shock at the rear offer clinical fine-tuning settings to swallow the vibrating surfaces. With dual-disc braking and tires in 190 at the rear, confidence is absolute. The wheelbase of 1405 mm and a seat at 82.5 centimeters announce the color: it’s a cornering weapon, not a cruiser.
Who is this rare pearl for? For the wealthy track rider who wants ready-to-race in a championship, or for the demanding collector for whom the RSV-R is already too tame. For the price of the time, 30,500 euros, you bought a piece of Aprilia’s competition history, a motorcycle that only lacked a starting number and the hand of a Laconi to face the factories in WSBK. Today, it has become a myth, proof that a brand could then sell its dream of victory, without compromise.
